Lies
"A lie can travel
half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."
--- Mark Twain
Deputy Sheriff Gene Ferrin
Deputy Sheriff Gene Ferrin was asked about the occupants of the other
vehicle. Ferrin seemed less willing to discuss the others, and sort of waved
his hand in. a dismissive-like gesture, telling me that "... he hit an older
couple..." who had been hurt, but not badly. He said the woman had
apparently suffered a broken foot, crushed when the engine was forced into
the passenger compartment. He said the man had already been released from
the hospital following suturing of facial cuts and lacerations.
Corner Bob Cambell
The parents of Conley Lane and Ollie Sutherland were told by the Teton
County Corner, Bob Cambell on the day after the collision that no alcohol
was involved in this incident as it related to Ollie Sutherland and Conley
Lane. However, later Mr. Cambell changed his story stating that he went to
Sutherland's residence and found whiskey bottles. It is highly irregular
that a corner would be sifting through a victim’s residence and personal
belongings. Does a coroner have the authority to search a residence? Does a
coroner usually do a follow-up investigation on traffic fatalities?
Who's running this investigation anyway?
Bob Campbell said he went to Ollie's room and found whiskey bottles! Then
Baldwin went to the room and found nothing. John Sutherland also found
nothing when he went to his son's room.
Bob Campbell reported to John Sutherland and his wife Alice, that the
accident victims in the other vehicle were an older couple. He described the
injuries to those victims (crushed foot, facial injuries, scalp injuries,
concussion, etc.,) in some detail, but misrepresented (whether intentionally
or not, it is not known) the ages and the number of people in the Yearsley
vehicle. This is curious behavior in an official elected to uncover,
analyze, document, and report such details.
What was Coroner Bob Cambell’s point in stating that there had "been five
other fatalities on "Brown's Curve" in recent years, and that the highway
patrol routinely lowers the speed limit to forty five miles per hour in that
area in winter months? Check the county records and you will find that this
is a false statement.
Bob Cambell misstated the truth when he stated that the blood samples were
sent directly to the lab in Cheyenne when, in fact, the samples were
delivered by Trooper Delane Baldwin, to the office of Asst. Prosecuting
Attorney's Office, Steve Weichman.
Wyoming State Trooper James Wilson
State Trooper James Wilson initialed a blood alcohol form stating he
witnessed the drawing of blood from the two victims. He now testifies that
he did not witness these events.
Prosecution Attorney Steve Weichman
Asst. Prosecuting Attorney also told the mother of Conley, that the State
trooper put David Yearsley through a field sobriety test, and that he passed
this test. The state trooper has stated the he did no such test on David
Yearsley's.
Reconstructionist John Daily
Sergeant Daily's report of the accident caused others to believe that the
Sutherland vehicle was travelling as fast as 69 mph and was out of control
at the time of the accident. This report disappeared at that point and did
not show up at a subsequent deposition of Sergeant Daily on April 11, 1995
because it was "misplaced." Sergeant Daily's deposition was taken without
benefit of his report and without substantial objection from Mr. Wolfe at
the point of that deposition. Because he had been urged to do so by counsel
for the defendant, Sergeant Daily "found" the "misfiled" report less than
twelve hours before he was to appear as an expert witness in these
proceedings.
Could this be calculated deception?
Accident reconstructionist, Sergeant John Daily, stated in his
deposition
that he went to the site with Trooper Delane Baldwin, however Trooper
Baldwin states in his deposition, that he never provided John Daily with any
information. Was John Daily lying??? How could a reconstructionist,
reconstruct an accident scene without, one, interviewing the officer in
charge or, two, visiting the accident scene. Where did John daily get his
information?? How could his testimony, be admissible in court when its
obvious his analysis is lacking in credibility.
Sergeant John Daily refused to sign his deposition. Hiding something?
It was reported that Sergeant John Daily was at the scene of the collision
that night. Officer Alan Johns stated that Sergeant John Daily drove his
police car back to town. He later recanted his statement.
